The Department of Commerce, University of Lucknow in association with Indian Accounting Association Lucknow branch hosted an Two Days International Conference on the theme “Attaining Sustainability @ 75: India Marching Towards the Third Largest Economy” on April 11-12, 2023. The event brought together distinguished national and international delegates, academics, and professionals from nations like Bangladesh, Oman, Singapore, Nepal, Sri Lanka & Bhutan to discuss and share their insights on India’s remarkable journey towards becoming a global economic powerhouse after 75 years of independence.
The Conference began with a warm and inspiring welcome by Head of Department and Convenor of Conference, Prof. Audhesh Kumar. In his opening speech, he highlighted the significance of India’s 75th year of independence and the nation’s remarkable GDP contribution in the global economy.
In addition, the conference featured the inauguration of one souvenir, one edited book and two books authored by Prof. Audhesh Kumar and Dr. Geetika T. Kapoor.
The conference also featured insightful speech from esteemed chief guests Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Heavy Industry Minister shed light on India’s success in tax collection, making it the first country to achieve this feat. He attributed this accomplishment to the government’s effective tax policies, digitalization, and a robust legal framework that encourages compliance and deters tax evasion.
Shri Ashwini Kumar Chaubey, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, spoke about the critical role consumers’ play in driving sustainable consumption patterns and shaping the economy. He emphasized the need for consumer education and awareness in making informed choices that support sustainable practices. He appreciated the vision of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and emphasized on following the model of respected Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
On this occasion, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Former Deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh, discussed the growing Indian economy, which has been steadily progressing with a GDP growth rate of 7%. Prof. Sharma shared insights into the factors driving this growth, including technological advancements, a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, and infrastructure development.
Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Lucknow in his speech, focused on the sustainable development of the Indian economy. He emphasized the importance of striking a balance between economic growth, environmental conservation, and social equity to ensure a prosperous future for India.
The Inaugural function ends with the vote of thanks by Prof. Ram Milan. On this event Conference Co-Convernor- Prof. Somesh Kumar Shukla, Joint Secretaries- Dr. Geetika T. Kapoor, Dr. Sunita Srivastava, other faculty members- Dr. Gyan Prakash, Dr. Akriti Jaiswal, Dr. Prashant Singh, Dr. Rishi Kant, Dr. Chandrakant were present along with participants and students of the department to grace the occasion.
On the first day one panel discussion was organized in which panelist from different countries namely Prof. Furqan Qamar, India; Shri Sanjiv Kakkar, India; Prof. A.K Singh, India; Dr. Amlan Ghosh, India; Dr. Shad Ahmad Khan, Oman; Prof. Mukul G. Asher, Singapore; Dr. Purna Prasad Sharma, Bhutan; Ms Shameena Pallie, Srilanka, shared their ideas and thoughts followed by three technical session incorporating approx. 200 research papers, presented by different academicians and scholars. The day ends with cultural eve “Tarang” were several artists performed.
